Né à Oran en 1932, Jean-Pierre Elkabbach est l'une des voix les plus connue du journalisme français. Il est aujourd'hui l'un des intervieweurs principaux d'Europe 1.
Il se lance dans la radio dés l'âge de 23 ans. Jeune homme motivé et ambitieux, il débute sa carrière comme correspondant de la radio française en Algérie avant d'être poussé à rentrer en France par les « événements » en 1961.
Il fait ses débuts à la télévision en 1970 pour la première chaine où il présente le Journal télévisé. Il travaille ensuite pour l'ORTF jusqu'à son éclatement en 1974.
Après un passage à France Inter, il retourne à la télévision : il brigue un poste de directeur de l'information d'Antenne 2 en 1978, ce qui lui permet de lancer l'émission « Carte sur table ». Il enchaîne ensuite les postes de direction : à Europe 1 mais aussi pour France Télévision où il fonde Public-Sénat.
Il reste proche de Lagardère Active où il occupe différents postes de cadre et de consultant.
Il est aujourd'hui revenu sur Europe 1 où il est réputé pour être un intervieweur pugnace et engagé.
