David Regnier: Event management is about anticipating trends and confidently standing by your ideas
A Career Bridging Communication, Culture, and International Relations
“My career has unfolded in several key stages: I first worked in various areas of communication before specializing in cultural communication. Then, I opened myself to the international sphere, particularly through cultural cooperation,” he explains.
His journey later led him to the French Embassy in Egypt, where he served as Cultural Attaché — a defining experience that taught him how to combine creativity, diplomacy, and intercultural project management.
Today, as Head of the Event Management Department for the City of Paris, he oversees the city’s major public events — more than 300 each year, organized in public spaces across the capital.
Event management careers attract many professionals who are passionate about communication, culture, and project management.
Project manager, production manager, event communication officer, or art director — these professions require as much rigor as creativity. They involve bringing teams together, managing budgets, developing original concepts, and creating memorable experiences for the public.
Through his career, David Regnier perfectly embodies the diversity and high standards that define careers in event management.
Creating Connection and Showcasing Paris
For David Regnier, event management is above all about bringing people together.
“Paris is an open-air living room. Events are moments of sharing, but also of international visibility for the city.”
That visibility comes with high standards of safety and coordination.
“Every gathering requires meticulous teamwork between municipal services, law enforcement, and private partners. Ensuring public safety while maintaining the conviviality and beauty of the event — that’s our greatest challenge,” he emphasizes.
Among all the events he has directed, July 14, 2024 remains an unforgettable memory:
“The arrival of the Olympic flame in Paris, followed by a concert on the forecourt of City Hall and a fireworks show over the Eiffel Tower featuring 1,000 drones… a truly magical moment!”

Inspiring Curiosity and Boldness Among EFAP Students
Alongside his role at the City of Paris, David Regnier teaches at EFAP, where he introduces students to Geopolitics and Event Management.
What does he aim to pass on?
“Curiosity and openness to the world. In this field, there’s no predetermined path — you have to sense trends, stand by your creative choices, and see your ideas through to the end.”
For him, intuition and discipline are the two essential qualities for any event professional:
“Intuition, to understand your audiences; and discipline, to structure an increasingly complex ecosystem.”
This balance is all the more crucial as the sector continues to evolve:
“Event management must now integrate CSR, climate responsibility, gender equality, and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. These have become key pillars of our profession.”
He also sees the Olympic Games as a major turning point:
“They strengthened the excellence of French event management and placed the spectator experience at the very heart of our work. Today, it’s not just about organizing an event — it’s about designing the entire journey, from the spectator’s doorstep to the event venue itself.”
And his message to future EFAP graduates?
“Don’t follow in my footsteps — create your own! EFAP gives you an exceptional foundation. Be curious, stay open, own your creative choices, and pursue your ambitions with confidence.”
